From the archives: Chasubles

The research project I just started focuses on Sofia Widén's chasubles (mässhakar) from 1952-1961. The first thing I am doing is an inventory of all of the chasubles made according to the order books from that time. This information I can most of the time match with a photography, an original sketch and samples of all of the materials used in the process of making it. Quite amazing that so much has been saved all these years! Here is what it can look like.

And another example, a green chasuble for Gryts church in Stjärnhov from 1953.The chasuble was made by a silk damask fabric called "Småkors" (Small Crosses) also designed by Sofia Widén.
